Frequently Asked Questions

What is GFRG?

The GFRG acronym stands for “glass fiber reinforced gypsum”. GFRG is a composite of high strength alpha gypsum cement reinforced with glass fibers and can be molded into virtually any shape or size.

What are the advantages of GFRG?

Compared to traditional plaster or drywall, GFRG pieces are lighter in weight, meaning less supportive framing is necessary and less time is required to install. Glass fiber reinforced gypsum pieces are notably stronger and more durable.

In what applications can GFRG be used?

GFRG is commonly used to make ceiling coffers, domes, and vaults; columns, capitals, and bases; light coves and running trims; brackets and corbels; complicated geometric shapes, sculpted panels, and many other decorative elements. GFRG can be fabricated into virtually any shape or scale, even with a detailed surface, texture, or pattern.

Is GFRG fire-resistant?

GFRG pieces have the lowest Flame Spread and Smoke Development ratings possible. Use of GFRG helps prevent the spread of fire.

Can GFRG be painted?

Yes, GFRG parts are usually supplied unfinished for onsite painting after installation.

Is GFRG considered a “green” product?

From an environmental perspective, GFRG is lighter, stronger and more durable than alternative methods and materials which reduces the amount of raw materials used and costs less to transport.
