The Process

GFRG is used in virtually any architectural application imaginable, including column covers, decorative wall and ceiling panels, domes, bulkheads, and light coves.

What is GFRG?

Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum, better known as GFRG, is a white alpha gypsum that, to the eye, presents as beautifully as traditional plaster, but has the advantages of its lighter weight, superior strength, and ease of installation.

With the resurgence in popularity of traditional architectural forms complementing stunning modern designs, GFRG has evolved as the ideally versatile medium. It enables architects and designers to achieve their visions, while reducing time and expense during installation. Palladio GFRG is excited to provide bespoke GFRG creations, drawing on our deep understanding of the properties of plaster and architectural principles and applications.

GFRG is a composed of high strength alpha gypsum reinforced with glass fibers that can be factory molded into virtually any shape or size. It’s also:

  • lightweight - only 2-3 pounds per square foot (10-15 kg/m2)

  • considerably lighter and stronger than traditional plaster

  • finished similar to drywall

  • non-combustible

  • typically completed with interior paint

  • cast to size, minimizing excessive framing and making GFRG a practical choice for LEED and green construction projects
