GFRG Baldacchino at St. Augustine

The St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo, MI was built in the gothic revival style but was missing one element indicative of a cathedral: a baldacchino. Palladio GFRG was engaged to sculpt the elements, create the patterns and molds, and furnish and install the parts. A rugged metal frame was utilized as the internal structure to which the parts were fastened. The entire structure was hoisted and placed carefully on the four supporting marble columns. Evergreene Architectural Arts performed the gilding and the marbleizing to match the columns. Renowned architect Duncan G. Stroik is responsible for the impeccable design.
